CCS - Highlight These 5 Skills on Your Construction Resume to Stand Out

Searching for your next construction gig can be easy if you’ve got a strong resume. Your ability to display your qualifications and prove yourself to a new project manager is important. Make sure to have these 5 skills on your construction resume to stand out from the crowd!

1. Basic Construction Experience

A no-brainer, right? The most prominent area of your construction resume should be what prior or current construction experience you have, and how long you had to master that skill. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box as well and add any transferable skills from non-construction roles.

2. Tool and Equipment Use

Any construction job features a ton of different power tools and heavy machinery. The more training you have with typical construction tools and equipment, the better off you’ll be. Your construction resume should list the tools you have experience with, especially if you have a specific equipment license that may be beneficial in an industrial or warehouse setting.

3. Warehouse Skills

Knowing the ins and outs of a warehouse gives you a specific skill set to help you succeed. When you build your construction resume, include all warehouse-related skills such as loading, unloading, heavy lifting, processing, and other operations abilities.

4. Trade Skills

Not all construction workers gain access to higher-level trade skills, but those are definitely coveted by construction hiring managers. Some entry-level construction workers will get the chance to assist and practice with a talented trade where they can pick up some skills. If you have any experience in carpentry, plumbing, or electricity, be sure to note this on your resume.

5. Management

Look for opportunities in your current role to help the team and be a leader on the site. List any supervisory experience you have, even if it’s limited. If there’s an opportunity to take the next step in your career path, it will probably include managing a team.
